That's your choice of course, then you "follow the herd" like the big companies (and people like Ferid) want. Be the blind slave of mass-consumption. Spend big money on products that were made in a few minutes.
But I say : the big companies are making easy money because they don't put a lot of work into their cymbals anymore. They make cymbals very fast with machines and do very little or no handwork. Cymbals are hammered less and less. Even K Constantinoples are "hammered" ONLY by a machine. That's why modern cymbals (even expensive ones) sound "cheaper" all the time. Many modern K Zildjians sound not much better than ZBT's anymore. If K's would be made from the same alloy like ZBT's, the difference in sound would become extremely small.
Cymbals can sound a LOT better and especially richer and more complex if there's much more work and dedication put in.
In fact, what I'm doing is what the factories should do, but have stopped doing long ago. I work hours to sometimes even days on a cymbal. A company like Zildjian, Paiste or Sabian only spends minutes on the hammering. You don't ask questions when you pay 500 euro for a K Constantinople that's hammered by a machine in a few minutes?
Of course many business-people who make a profit by selling and advertising the cymbals of big companies "don't like" what I do.
I was even banned from Batteuronline by Ferid, but may be he was instructed to ban me by the owners of the forum. Mass-consumption and struggle to make big profit does not tolerate people who try to be creative.
This forum shows it can be different ! The moderators here have sponaneously given my work extra attention without any profit for themselves ! I'm also welcome on Latoiledesbatteur.
What a difference with Batteuronline, which is clearly only interested in raising the sales of the big companies and simply ban people who try to be creative.
I can tell you, compared to the time I work into a cymbal, my charge is very low.
If Zildjian/Sabian/Paiste would do as much hammering on a cymbal as I do, they would probably ask 1000 euro for a 20" ride.
